Reduction Mammoplasty (with or without implants) is a surgical procedure aimed at reducing the size of the breasts. Among the reasons why a reduction mammoplasty could be considered are the following:
– To improve the body contour of the woman, who presents a giant breast and/or for personal reasons considers the size of her breasts too large.
– To balance the size of the breasts, when there is a significant difference between them.
– As a reconstructive technique in certain situations.
The shape and size of the breasts prior to surgery can influence both the recommended treatment and the final result. If the breasts are not the same size or shape before surgery, it is unlikely that they will be completely symmetrical afterwards.
There are several types of implants: Silicone gel fillers and saline fillers: silicone gel fillers have a consistency more similar to the mammary gland and in case of rupture it is more difficult to determine as their shape varies little, as saline fillers in case of rupture will be easily evidenced. The surface can be smooth, textured or microtextured, the latter being the one that has shown less tendency to capsular contracture. The round or anatomical shape, to selectively project some part of the breast; high or low profile that make the breast look wider or narrower and in profile more or less projected. There are studies that suggest drawbacks and risks of each. You should discuss with your plastic surgeon the most appropriate for each individual case.
Breast reduction is achieved through incisions that eventually end up as an Inverted T-shaped scar. The patient must stay in the city for at least 25 days before being authorized to travel. However, the patient must keep in mind to continue observing the care recommendations, also respecting the times indicated to perform certain activities again.

The patient must remain in the city where the procedure is performed for at least 25 days. She will have to walk from the first day, but, by way of exercise, she will be able to do it after a month and a half of surgery for 2 weeks, after which she will be able to start jogging gently for 2 more weeks and then resume reconditioning exercises very gently and progressively without including arms until at least 3 months and by then the movements and efforts of arms should start gently and progressively increased week by week. The return to work will depend on the activity performed and will have to keep the proportions with respect to the resumption of physical activity.
At least 5 postoperative massages (one daily) may be sufficient when only this procedure is performed.
Avoid getting the wounds wet, keep the elbows close to the body for at least 20 days, reduce efforts with the arms, follow the indications specifically given as regards postoperative massages, taking medication, use of a post-surgical bra, hyperbaric chamber, attendance to controls, etc. Physical activity that includes arm work could be resumed progressively after at least 5 months. Sunbathing can be resumed when the wound has completely healed and the bruises and swelling have disappeared, but not before 3 months.

The best candidate for breast reduction is someone who experiences physical discomfort or pain due to excessively large breasts, desires a more proportionate and balanced chest, is in good overall health, and has realistic expectations for the procedure.
You may start to see immediate improvements in breast size and shape after breast reduction, with final results becoming more apparent as swelling subsides over the following weeks and months.
The results of breast reduction surgery can be long-lasting, although individual experiences may vary based on factors such as weight fluctuations, aging, and lifestyle changes.
