RHINOPLASTY is a surgery in which the shape of the nose is modified. This surgical procedure can produce changes in the appearance, structure and function of the nose. Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of the nose, change the shape of the tip, narrow the width of the wings and thus the size of the nostrils, or change the angle between the nose and upper lip. This operation can help correct birth defects, nasal injuries, and some breathing problems.
There is no universal type of rhinoplasty that meets the needs of every patient. Rhinoplasty surgery is designed for each patient, depending on their needs. Incisions can be made inside the nose, or hidden in inconspicuous places in the nose when an open rhinoplasty is performed. And despite the proper choice of technique and its correct performance, undesirable effects may occur, both the common ones derived from any intervention and that can affect all organs and systems, as well as those due to the patient’s vital situation (diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, advanced age, anemia, obesity), and those specific to the procedure.
Generally, the changes made during rhinoplasty are very minor. But these changes can affect the appearance of the nose and its function significantly. As the changes are small, so is the margin of error.
Swelling and the placement of local anesthesia on the skin distort the nose during surgery, and obscure many of the small changes made. Rhinoplasty also has no standard planning or set order of steps. This depends on the characteristics and needs of the patient.

The patient must stay for at least 12 days in the city where the procedure is performed, counting from the day after the surgery. Although he/she must walk from the first day, the practice of exercise will begin only after the first 45 days with walking for the first 2 weeks, after which, two weeks of jogging at the end of which a soft and progressive physical reconditioning will begin for a month before starting major efforts which can be implemented after the third month. The return to work will depend on the activity performed and will have to keep the proportions with respect to the resumption of physical activity.
Usually 3 massages are enough
Avoid wetting the splint and the surgical wounds located at the base of the nasal wings, avoid sun exposure, use E Q Gel cream and sunscreen on the exposed skin areas with signs of inflammation and ecchymosis, minimize efforts and positions that increase pressure on the face such as bending or stooping and/or lifting, use the nasal splint for one month and the micropore tapes for a month and a half counted from the day of surgery and pay attention to any specific indication for each particular case. Resume activity progressively after 2 months.

To prepare for rhinoplasty, consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon specializing in the procedure, discuss your goals and expectations, follow pre-operative instructions closely, arrange for post-operative care, and prepare a comfortable recovery space at home.
The best candidate for rhinoplasty is someone who desires to improve the appearance or function of their nose, has realistic expectations, is in good overall health, and has fully developed facial features.
You may start to see initial results from rhinoplasty within a few weeks as swelling subsides, but final results, including refinement and settling of the nose, typically become noticeable after about six months to a year.
The results of rhinoplasty can be long-lasting, although individual experiences may vary based on factors such as natural aging processes, lifestyle changes, and post-operative care.
